A group of LGBT youth leaders and supporters protested outside of a new Chick-Fil-A restaurant which opened in Laguna Hills on July 26, 2012. Just in time for the giveaway that would grant the first 100 customers free meals for a year, signs were held opposing the food chain's anti-gay marriage stance which has become the center of heated debate recently.
The restaurant responded by giving the first customers tickets for their prize instead of camping out during the controversial protest.
Sure. Tolerance means boycott. Chik-Fil-A is allowed to open a store. We are allowed to decide if and why we visit the store. If we don't like it, we can say so. Tolerance doesnt' mean going in to Chik-Fil-A and eating the food. And it certainly doesn't mean keeping quiet if you disagree with its owner's views.
Likewise, if you don't like Gay Marriage and you are Tolerant, you allow it to be legal. That doesn't mean you have to march in the LBC Pride Parade. You don't have to hang out with Gay people. You can say yeven say that you don't think people are naturally Gay, or even that you don't believe in Gay Marriage. You can hold up signs saying GOD HATES FAGS and all that sort of thing. Give speeches. That's a great American tradition. Tolerance means you allow something to exist that you may not agree with, because you recognize the right of the person do so something you may not like. It doesn't mean you have to pretend to agree with it. Or that you can't speak against it.
I am tolerant when it comes to Coldplay. I think they are stupid. If I get the chance, I will explain how all their songs suck, and how Chris Martin is a fucktard. But I don't believe my daughter shouldn't be allowed to listen to them. Even though they SUCK.
