On 9/9, a memorial gathering for Costa Mesa resident John Kissel, who died in a 8/29 Lake Havasu cliff diving accident, happened northside at the Huntington Beach Pier. Over 150 surfers and friends gathered for a traditional surfers memorial service by paddling out on their boards and honoring their friend in the pacific ocean. Later, a memorial party took place at the Aloha Grill in Huntington Beach on Main Street. Friends and family of the former surfer spent time telling stories and sharing memories of their time with John.

This year's Orange International Street Fair celebrated its sixth year in Old Towne Orange on 9/6. Friends and family convened in the streets to experience all sorts of food, dance and culture. And beer. Lots of beer. For more info, see orangestreetfair.org.
The booze-up, held at Irvine Lake on 8/30, featured the county's best breweries, plus domestic and international brands, including ones from Hawai'i, Brazil and, of course, Belgium. The afternoon's entertainment was the Spinal Tap-inspired Metal Shop.
