Freedom Creative Arts Fest II @ eVocal After three years, westside Costa Mesa all-ages art gallery/clothing store/live music venue eVocal said goodbye on 7/4 with an all-day "Freedom Fest" showcasing local visual artists and featuring a variety of Orange County and Long Beach musical acts including Love Your Mother, Sweet Sweet Things, Parade of Lights, the New Limb, the Steelwells, Will Crum and more. Owner Brett Walker has vowed that eVocal will continue to exist as an entity, but this was the venue's second-to-last show; before July 10's gig with Yellow Red Sparks, Barrett Johnson, Billy Kernkamp and Railroad to Alaska.

Newport Dunes Fourth of July Celebration Always one of the most anticipated annual events in Orange County and Southern California, Newport Dunes hosted their famous Fourth of July celebration this year on 7/4 (yep). Hundreds of participants took part in family festivities, water activities, carnival rides and, of course, a spectacular fireworks display.

"Mark Mothersbaugh: Postcard Diaries" Big Devo fan? You better hurry on over to the Irvine Fine Arts Center to catch the last few days of an exhibition of Mark Mothersbaugh's "Postcard Diaries." Mothersbaugh has been obsessively illustrating on post cards for more than 30 years--anywhere from one to 25 images per day--for friends and family, as a sort of visual diary. Though these post cards were never meant for public viewing, Mothersbaugh is displaying some of his favorite pieces from the collection in this art gallery tour. Energy dome not required.
