Two Truck Events, Two Days, Two Charities
Food truck gatherings happen practically every day, but few usually benefit charities. Those happening today and tomorrow do.
Today, a so-called "Gourmet on the Go Food Drive Event" is happening at the OCEA (Orange County Employees Association) office in Santa Ana bringing together five indigenous food trucks to benefit the hungry. 15% of all food sales will go to the United Labor Agency of Orange County Food Bank. In addition, people are encouraged to bring in canned or dry food items to donate (please no glass or expired items).
Here are the details:
Time: 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Friday, December 3, 2010
Location: 830 North Ross, Santa Ana
Parking and Admission: Free
Trucks Scheduled to be in Attendance:
- Crepes Bonaparte
- Dos Chinos
- Piaggio on Wheels
- Short Stop BBQ
- Tropical Shave Ice
And finally, as our friend Brekkie Fan noted on her blog earlier this week, tomorrow's event is for CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) and occurs at Knotts' Berry Farm, or more specifically the lawn area of Park Pavilion, across the street from Knott's. There is an admission fee of $8 (children under 10 are free), which entitles the ticket-bearer access and unlimited fountain drinks. Note that there will also be a $12 parking fee levied to get into the Knott's parking lot.
A portion of the food truck sales and $5 of the admission fee will be donated directly to CHOC by the Torch Relay for Children's Miracle Network.
Notable among the attendees to this event is a truck called Chomp Chomp Nation, a new gourmet lonchera that specializes in the hawker foods of Singapore (it will be the one with the tiger stripes) and Ragin' Cajun, who you might remember from The Great Food Truck Race.
