This Weekend: Hanamatsuri Festival at Orange County Buddhist Church

The parking situation will test your patience, but the rest of the afternoon will put you at peace. The Hanamatsuri flower festival is a celebration of the birth of Buddha and it happens this weekend at the Orange County Buddhist Church in Anaheim.

]

Festivities will involve more than a day's share of Japanese culture (it's a two-day affair), including but not limited to aikido, kendo and karate demonstrations; katana sword, bonsai and koi exhibits; taiko drums performances, and of course, karaoke.

And why would we even talk about it if there wasn't food. There most likely will be grilled squid, teriyaki burgers, chirashi, makisushi, Spam musubis, and Okinawa dango, which are bite-sized fried donut spheres, and imagawayaki, a sort of hockey-puck-shaped pancake traditionally filled with sweet azuki bean paste.
