This Week In Food: World's Hottest Chile, The Poetic Return of Chicken Fries, and Bidding Farewell to Another Orange Grove

Hi dudes, let's take a look at what happened this week in food…

Edwin tried Fountain Valley's Vegan Cuisine and slurped down some faux pho that might just fool you. Then he told us that Pieology is set to open at the Irvine Marketplace this Sunday and that they'll give away free pizza vouchers to the first 50 customers. Next, he announced the opening of OC's first dry pot restaurant and he previewed a dish at Clay Oven in Irvine that features the world's hottest chile. (Stay tuned next week for an exclusive OC Weekly video of Charles Lam sampling the hottest chile dish in which he sweats a lot and I laugh at him.)

Speaking of Charles, he shared the surprising secret to grilling a better steak. He updated his on-going coverage of Fast Food Wars, and he announced that Build-Your-Own Pizza is coming to Santa Ana.

Anne Marie interviewed Matt Meddock and Max Schultz from the hip Sessions Sandwiches. She also named some of her favorite dishes for our Top 100 Countdown, like the spam and egg banh mi from Tan Hoang Houng and the chile relleno pretzel cheeseburger from the OC Fair – sorry you can't sample the latter anymore! 🙁

Cleo uncovered five local coffee roasters that you should drink and support (be damned, Starbucks!). Sarah went to Holé Molé for her Long Beach Lunch, a place where, incidentally, offers no molé whatsoever. Dave Mau lamented about the loss of another orange grove. Ryan Cady reunited with Burger King's chicken fries in a very emotional and poignant story. And last, I reminded you to buy tickets for our annual Decadence Food Ball.
