This Week In Food: Squid-Ink Pizza, LinX Sausages, and Nuts in Space!
Rebel Bite brews.
Hello ladies and germs, and welcome to another week in food.
This week Edwin visited Rebel Bite, a luxe lonchera made permanent in Long Beach, where he tasted curious sandwiches, deep fried wings, and a nice, squid-ink pizza. He told us to try the fruit tart from Le Croissant Dore in Westminster for all of it's sweet, glazed goodness. Then he shared his top 10 rice dishes to eat in Orange County. Some of these pour expensive seasoning and meats atop their rice, while others are straight up cheap and comforting. He told us about a peculiar experiment being conducted at a McDonald's in Australia, where guests are given table service, china to eat off of, and real utensils to eat with. The detail that makes it peculiar is that customers can only receive this special service by ordering three specific sandwiches between 5 and 8 p.m. on a Monday or Tuesday. Edwin finishes up with a story from space. Well, it's not really a story - just a cool video of nuts floating in space. Nuts in space...cue Flight of the Conchords music.
Gustavo went to Buns N Rice in Costa Mesa for Hole in the Wall, where he was pleasantly surprised that what first appeared to be a gabacho bimimbap, was actually delicious. He shared Geeta Bansal's third installment of interviews with European chefs - this time she spoke with Andoni Aduriz of Mugaritz in España. Last, Gustavo named Old Mill Gold Rum, in it's sweet carmelly essence and charming bottle, the Drink of the Week.
Anne Marie interviewed the bright-eyed Jonathan Rollo of the Greenleaf Gourmet Chopshop in Costa Mesa for her On The Line column. Then she somewhat became an object of envy as she beat all the other Weeklings to the green Valiant Brewery Company and the long-awaited LinX in Orange.
Dave shared Taco Maria's upcoming move to a brick and mortar location. Then he gave us the scoop on buying coffee from Southern Mexico without leaving Baja for our Tijuana Sí! column. Sarah went to Sushi Boy, a strip-mall joint, for her Long Beach Lunch, and Ali Lerman interviewed the Food Networks' Ching He-Huang about the Chinese New Year.
Thanks for reading, from all of us at Stick a Fork in It!
