Themed Dinners At Tangata's “Bowers After Hours” Events

Spending time at a museum should be a cross between Ferris Bueller's Day Off and a Ben Stiller movie. In reality, it's much more tame. So I was curious to hear about a couple of prix-fixe dinners created by Tangata at the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana. Served with optional wine pairings, the restaurant and museum mixed culinary and artistic talents into themed meals.

The first event is this Friday, January 17. Offering dinner and a movie, patrons are invited to dine on a three-course meal for $35 ($50 with wine) prior to a 7:30 p.m. screening of The Missing Piece— a movie about the theft of the Mona Lisa by a house painter. If that film isn't artsy enough for you, then chew on some ahi tuna tartare, beer braised short rib and a float made from Old Rasputin stout and vanilla gelato.

Beethoven fans (the composer, not the canine) can save Friday, March 28 on their calendars. In addition to evening museum access, visitors can shop the gallery store and look forward to a multi-course meal centered around his favorite dish, spatzle mac and cheese. The film for that evening is Beethoven: The Late Great. Music, film and food? A triple threat date night has got to score you some creative bonus points.
