Slate Pays Homage to an American Party Staple, the Red Solo Cup


​​Have you seen them recently? Red Solo cups–you know the ones–have gotten freaky-looking. They're all high-tech with finger grips and squarish bottoms and, and . . . THEY'RE RUINING COLLEGE! 

Slate writer Seth Stevenson noticed the new cups, too, and penned an excellent piece examining the history of the ubiquitous drinking vessel, its cultural significance as an American party staple, and the reason for the redesign. Most important, through careful testing, he answers the burning question: Will the new cups still work in Flip Cup?
