Let's count 'em, shall we? OC food-truck chefs who went brick-and-mortar: There was Hop Phan of Dos Chinos a few months ago, then the folks at the Tropical Shave Ice Truck. Most recently, Jason Quinn of the Lime Truck opened his Playground in Santa Ana, with fellow Great Food Truck Race 2 alum Stephanie Morgan of Seabirds announcing plans to do the same nearby.
Now we have Andrew Gruel of the Slapfish Truck announcing via Facebook that
he's going to shut down his truck for the winter in anticipation of
opening a Slapfish restaurant in Huntington Beach. He's expecting an
early 2012 opening.
]
He wrote to our Michelle Woo, “We are 99 percent finished with all the paperwork, so I will be able to announce
more details (location opening date, etc.) within the next couple
of weeks.”
More info here as we get them.
But again, here is proof that just as TV actors ultimately want to be on the big screen, luxe lonchera chefs want to be restaurateurs.
