San Diego-Based Bull Taco Comes to San Clemente

We took the scenic route this week and spotted it: a restaurant that was neither pizza nor burger being built. With a name like Bull Taco, we hesitated to look them up. And for good reason. With a catchphrase of “Inauthentic Mexican“, you just know Weeklings will have a field day with it.

Down the street from Riders Club Cafe, it was originally scheduled to launch before Labor Day. But you know how opening dates tend to go.

Serving breakfast meals with Sriracha sour cream and cilantro, they buck typical taco selections with duck and oyster options. If that doesn't make you go hmmmm, their exotic meats will. Elk, kangaroo or braised half lamb's head, anyone?

Operating since 2008 at Cardiff by the Sea, they currently have spots in Oceanside and Petco Park. We're not sure how they will fare, but they get points for originality. Someone pass us a beer–we need a moment to digest.

Bull Taco will be at 1527 N. El Camino Real in San Clemente. www.bulltaco.com.
