The news comes courtesy of KSPN-AM 710 reporter and Lakers TV contributor Beto Duran, who just validated with this stunt why we named him Southern California's best sportscaster in this year's Best Of issue. Sacre, Duran, and the cameras for Time Warner Cable Sportsnet's Backstage Lakers hit up El Tepeyac yesterday for a segment.
“Wow,” Duran posted on his eminently followable Instagram account. “We tried but couldnt finish but @therealsacre beat me. 5 lb burrito challenge at Manuels El Tepeyac in East LA is the truth. Even had horchata. #needbetobismol #tummyhurts #sacredurancomedyshow #amigos.”
Fans are already reacting positively on Duran's and Sacre's Instagram account, with most in awe that the seven-footer would visit the REAL Eastside. But Duran told the Weekly that, far from being just the latest Hispandering attempt by a athlete, Sacre–who was born in Louisiana but raised in Canada–is a bona fide Mexican food fan, usually hitting up loncheras near the Staples Center after a game.
