According to our sister publication, the LA Weekly, the southward march of artisanal pizza continues: Mario Batali and Nancy Silverton will be opening a Pizzeria Mozza in Newport Beach. The LA Weekly heard it straight from the source: Nancy Silverton says they have signed a lease at 800 West Coast Highway.
No word yet on the official opening date, but one thing is for sure: it will be unbelievably crowded from the get-go; fortunately there will be a Mozza2Go section, so you can take it out and eat it on the curb, just like in New York.
