Yesterday kicked off the Newport Beach Film Festival. Tomorrow is the premiere of Grub Tribe's documentary on Pascal Olhats, La Tradition. But wait, there's more! And it involves another Pascal.

If you didn't score tickets to the first showing of La Tradition, there's a second showtime on Monday afternoon. After the viewing on Saturday, however, a very special menu is being served for that day only by one of the many chefs he's mentored, Pascal Gimenez. We recently wrote up his inspired Farmers Market menus over at Cafe Beau Soleil.

Separate from his weekly farmers market specials, La Tradition Goes On is a four-course, $30 prix fixe. It begins with crab crumbs and avocado, served with avocado cream and herb salad. This is followed up by a serving of foie gras ravioli: seared "La Belle Farm" foie gras homemade ravioli and spiced apricot preserve in a foie cream sauce. Your main course is a roulade of herb-stuffed chicken breast, finished with cream of rice and plated with wild rice. Dessert round is blueberry ice cream in a pool of caramel— which we loved. Reservations are recommended.

On a related note, we learned Chef Olhats will then be cooking on Sunday to assist festival sponsor Celebrity Cruises with an invite-only viewing of the food-centric film, The Hundred-Foot Journey. Promoting their new A Taste of Film experience, Olhats will prepare a multi-course meal to be served throughout the movie. Available on a few of Celebrity's cruise ships, they aim to take passengers on a multi-sensory journey while appreciating choice cultural, destination-based or culinary topics. This weekend proves that it's a Pascal-centric world; we're just living in it.
