On The Line: James Nunn Of Jimmy's Famous American Tavern, Part Two

James tolerates questioning for a little bit longer in our second installment.

Read our interview with James Nunn of Jimmy's Famous American Tavern, Part One. And now, on to Part Two . . . .

Tell us about your Guttermouth days. How did you transition from rocker to chef? Everything you expect from being on the road for over a decade: Sex, drugs and lots of property damage. There are a lot of similarities with punk rock and being a chef. You live the pirate lifestyle-- up all night, and then get ready for the next show over and over. Lots of organized chaos.

What would you be doing if you weren't in this business? Used car sales.

Last book read; how was it? Just read Beyond Nose to Tail again by Fergus Henderson. It was fantastic.

Where did you grow up? I am from OC. I lived in La Habra and Huntington Beach.

When you're not cooking in the kitchen, what are you doing? Playing music and hanging out with my kids.

Last song playing on your radio: All Over Now by Snuff.

Hardest lesson you've learned: How to pick your battles.

What's your favorite childhood memory? Going to my grandmother's house at Salt Creek.

What were you up to five years ago? Being a chef and a part-time pharmacist.

Do you have any skills that are non-food related? Jack of all trades, master of a few I won't mention.

Jimmy's Famous American Tavern will be opening at Dana Marina Plaza. 25001 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point. Learn more at www.j-fat.com.
