On the Line: Casey Overton Of The Loft, Part Two

I can learn more about a subject by sitting down with them for 20 minutes than they'll ever admit to on paper. Fortunately, I prefer the social interaction over email exchanges any day. Casey is no exception, as he reminisces about previous employers and goes over our assortment of questions. I grill him on just a few more inquiries before finishing my glass of red.

Read our interview with Casey that started yesterday over here. And then finish it with the Q & A below . . . .

Hardest lesson you've learned: The balance between cooking for the guest and cooking for yourself (still learning).

Last thing you looked up/searched online: Sean Brocks' new restaurant in Charleston.

How did you meet your wife? We are high school sweethearts.

What activities do you like to do with your family? I love playing board games (including Battleship), taking them to practice and cooking together.

Where did you grow up? The OC. I attended Mater Dei and Cal Lutheran.

Last song playing on your radio: We Built This City by Starship.

Last movie watched; how was it? Aladdin. I sincerely miss Robin Williams!

Do you have any skills that aren't food-related? In a past life I was a pretty good singer [Editor's Note: Casey met his future wife while singing in choir.]

What would you be doing if you weren't in the industry? I would be a teacher/coach. I love to mentor people. Athletics are another passion of mine.
