OC Law Firm Plans Turkey Giveaway for Families of People Killed by Police

Thanksgiving is almost here, and so is the turkey philanthropy with a side of gravy. Carrazco Law, a Tustin-based firm, is doing a turkey giveaway tomorrow with a bit of a different twist. Families who've lost loved ones to police killings in OC and beyond can pick up a free turkey and bag of groceries from its law office.

“During these holidays, it's hard for the families,” says attorney Angel Carrazco. There's the pain of the empty seat at the Thanksgiving table that becomes much more acute. “It's good to bring them all together and at least enjoy Thanksgiving with them.”

Carrazco's firm often represents clients in anti-police brutality criminal and civil cases. His firm have done turkey giveaways for three years now. He buys the turkeys himself from Costco and picks up the rest of the feast from Serve The People, a non-profit with a warehouse in Santa Ana.

“We have 200 bags of groceries for them,” says Carrazco, who is also Serve The People's co-chair. They are packaged to put a Thanksgiving meal together with rice, canned food, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes. The Young Survivors Legacy Support Network, a nonprofit connecting families affected by police brutality, is bringing people together from Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties in the effort.

Following the turkey giveaway, Carrazco Law continues with another annual holiday tradition. “We're going to feed about 200 homeless people in downtown Santa Ana,” Carrazco says. They'll be out on Wednesday evening at Civic Center Drive and Ross.

There will be a taquero and high school students volunteering to help pass the Mexi meals out, but probably no turkey tacos.
