Shin-Sen-Gumi—one of the most venerable Japanese restaurant chains, with locations in Gardena, Little Tokyo and Fountain Valley—has now opened in Irvine's Woodbury Town Center, next to Niko Niko Sushi and The Counter. Subtitled Hakata Ramen & Udon, this Shin-Sen-Gumi iteration serves not just ramen but also an extended array of dishes including udon, sashimi, izakaya-style plates, and rice bowls with ground chicken and egg. During this past weekend, despite the 100 degree weather, the wait list to slurp ramen there was 2 pages deep.
