No Taste of Newport This Year For First Time in 24 Years

I haven't been to the annual Taste of Newport because it's CRAZY–good crazy, mind you. Great music, great food, great women, ambiance, all of it. It's as much a part of Newport civic life as the Boat Parade–and this year, for the first time in 24 years, it won't happen.

From Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce President and C.E.O. Steve Rosansky, who sent out an email this morning to members:

…The Chamber Board of Directors and Chamber Staff are conducting a complete review of all of our activities and events. As a result of this reassessment, it has been decided that the Taste of Newport will not be presented this year. Over the past 24 years, the Taste of Newport has grown into a major Southern California signature event. As a result, it has increasingly relied on the resources of the Chamber to the point of keeping us from our core mission of promoting, informing and educating our membership and serving the business needs of the Newport Beach community. Over the next year we intend to explore ways in which the Taste of Newport can be re-imagined and presented in a way which works for our members as well as all of those restaurants and businesses that have partnered with us in the past to stage the Taste.

Let's hope there's enough of a public uproar so that the Chamber folks reconsider…
