No, Chick-Fil-A Will NOT Stop Funding Anti-Gay Groups

No, Chick-Fil-A Will NOT Stop Funding Anti-Gay Groups

After a storm of controversy, it seemed that a figurative rainbow would finally be shining over Chick-Fil-A, the chikin chain under fire for its anti-gay stance. Last week, Dave reported that a Chicago alderman (aka council member) had secured a promise from the company to stop funding groups that oppose marriage equality. Chick-Fil-A opponents were hopeful, wondering if this meant they could finally get their hands on one of those tasty chicken sandwiches. (Because come on, you know you've been craving one too amid all the freakin' talk about 'em.)

Unfortunately, folks, Chick-Fil-A is still anti-gay. According to the Huffington Post, Chick-Fil-A president Dan Cathy has spoken out against reports that the chain has given in to gay marriage supporters. On Friday, he issued this statement on the website of Mike Huckabee, former Arkansas governor and the mastermind behind the barf-worthy spectacle that was this summer's Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day:

"There continues to be erroneous implications in the media that Chick-fil-A changed our practices and priorities in order to obtain permission for a new restaurant in Chicago. That is incorrect. Chick-fil-A made no such concessions, and we remain true to who we are and who we have been."

The company also released a statement on its website addressing the claims from Chicago.

". . . while our sincere intent has been to remain out of this political and social debate, events from Chicago this week have once again resulted in questions around our giving. A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that God has entrusted to us. Because of this commitment, Chick-fil-A's giving heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas."
