No. 50: Lobster Waffle at Bruxie

Novelty first drew me to Bruxie. Waffle sandwiches were exciting, let alone the prospect of eating a cheeseburger waffle. But even that works here–even with syrup. Pretty much anything they throw into that bent, golden slab of crosshatched goodness is most always going to taste fantastic.
Braised short rib and seasoned potatoes make a hearty lunch; fresh strawberries and crème brûlée prove the minds in the back can pull off the crazy stuff they think up. For another example of that, take the lobster waffle.

The sandwich is only offered on the Fourth o' July and priced at very patriotic and pricey $17.76. But save up those coins and make sure you're in line next year, because it's worth every penny.
Part of ordering is the show, since they cook the lobsters out front. The bubbling cauldron is packed with lobster, all roiling in spices, vegetables and bay leaf until they achieve a soft, white flesh and fire-truck red exterior. The portion is worthy of the price tag, with each waffle cradling about a pound of meat. It's dressed simply, with mayo, chive and pepper, to enhance the sapor of the seafood. The waffle, which has a simplistic perfection all its own, adds a buttery richness and contrasting crunch to each bite.

It's a bummer they don't bring this out of the vault more often.
