No. 30: 95% Of The Menu At Confetti Italian Ice

We're now halfway through the Long March known as 100 Favorite Dishes (INSERT YEAR). YEAH!!!

Hey, don't ding us for listicles: Weekly DataLab studies show ustedes love this gimmick, launched in honor of our coming Best Of issue. Besides, it is rather fun to do this for us Forkers–an opportunity to highlight dishes from restaurants we'll never fully review, or secrets from old standbys. Anyhoo, let the march begin…

The weather's been hot as Hades lately, leaving us searching for a cool escape. Typically, we settle for something off a restaurant's dessert menu. Since we began frequenting Confetti, however, we've gone out of our way to end our nights there, so (nearly) perfect their offerings are.

Located a few doors down from Ramen Yamadaya, its cool candy striper decor and thumping club music make for an anti-31 flavors parlour. The lines grow quick, but service at Confetti's surpasses most sit-down places. They are chill with mixing up samples of ALL their combinations–and there are dozens. You're going to find a favorite, and if you don't, that's where the five percent comes in. Fruity, chocolatey, custard or flavored ice, it's an endless stream of sweetness.

Their interpretations of childhood flavors do us in. Our first love was the Bomb Pop with lemon custard and blueberry ice; it was a Rocket Pop (the West Coast equivalent) in a cup. Last time, we attacked a 50/50. The vanilla custard and orange ice twist brought back memories of orange sherbet in Solvang, 25 years ago. Individual flavors are tough to pass up– think horchata ice or Thai iced tea custard. Next visit, we're debating between green tea and nutella custard. Don't worry– you can cut in front of us while we decide, since it might be a while.
