Meanwhile, Back At Cafe Du Monde… Book Reading At Surfas This Saturday

Laissez les bon temps rouler! Mardi Gras is already a few weeks away, but our friends at Surfas are getting ready now with a little drama. If you're looking for ways to dodge the rain, head over to SoCo for this ditty.

Have a piping hot cuppa chicory coffee while Peggy Sweeny-McDonald and her crew bring to life excerpts from her book, Meanwhile, Back at Cafe Du Monde, a collection of monologues from her much-acclaimed traveling show. All the collected stories sharing the common thread of food loved and lost, expect as much laughter as tears. Her show has been on the road since 2010, but the written collection of stories debuted last September.

If you like what you see, a complete performance is scheduled for Sunday evening at Tom Bergin's Tavern off Fairfax for $25. Peggy incorporates local personalities into the shows, as emcee Susan Irby “The Bikini Chef” and Tom Bergin's executive chef Brandon Boudet are thrown in for good measure. Radio personality Chef Jamie Gwen grabs hold of the mic a few weeks later on February 11.

Get your SoCo Certified farmers' market fix, then take cover in Surfas' test kitchen from noon to 2pm. The event is definitely free, but seating is first come, first serve. We take our coffee au lait, by the way.
