McDonald's Video Shows How French Fries Are Made; Leaves Some Stuff Out
McDonald's Canada's "truthiness" campaign continues with more reveals on how they make and what goes into their most popular items.
These videos have addressed just about every customer-lobbed question from "why doesn't the food ever look as good as the picture?" to "does McDonald's use 'pink slime' beef?"
Now they talk about their fries, perhaps the least controversial item they make.
But there's something slightly disingenuous about this one.
Before you watch the video, read this list of ingredients for their French fries. Then notice not what they say, but what they don't say.
They actually mention the dextrose; but the less savory, polysyllabic words and the beef flavor in their vegetable oil? Not so much.
Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*, citric acid [preservative]), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), salt. Prepared in vegetable oil (Canola oil, corn oil, soybean oil, hydrogenated soybean oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness). Dimethylpolysiloxane added as an antifoaming agent.
