MAZ café con leche–a SanTana coffee shop specializing in Latino-inspired drinks like Mazapan, Abuelita, and horchata lattes and frappes–is celebrating its grand opening tomorrow, August 29, starting at 9 a.m. They'll be having a buy-one-drink-get-one-half-off deal all day, free samples, and giveaways, so you won't want to miss it ('sides, it'll be hot, so you'll be needing a cold drink anyway).

The new cafe is part-lounging area, part-study area, and part-art-gallery/performance space. Owner Senah Kim says she wants to create an environment where people can enjoy local art and music with a cup of coffee in hand. Specifically, she wants to work with underrepresented, emerging artists and plans to host events for creatives at the shop. Pretty cool, eh?
Kim's art-centric philosophy reflects in the space's design, where wood furniture and succulents dictate the cafe's visual identity. Walls are decorated with local art and there's a designated space for musical performances. The drinks and food are aesthetically pleasing, too: frappes are served in glass mason jars overflowing with whipped cream; the dulce de leche cake stands like a sculpture–ornate and bronze.
The cafe boasts its Mazapan frappe–a drink inspired by those crumbly desserts every Mexican on Earth still eats in one bite and tries to make stick to the roof of their mouth–as a must-try. Besides the Abuelita and horchata frappes and lattes mentioned earlier, there's also the Vienna–espresso with whipped cream–and cold brew filtered with a French press. For food, they'll have empanadas made with cajeta and salads.
Now for the fun stuff: the grand opening will include a photo booth, live painting, and performances by Sokratik, Something Van Something, Dave Chappell (not the comedian–in case you were wondering), and more.
