Let Us Eat Cake--But For Forty Bucks?

Okay, the event isn't taking place in Orange County, and, okay, it mainly involves cupcakeries based in Los Angeles, but it'd be remiss of me not to tell our sweet-toothed readers about it.

Sponsored by Nesquik and held at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel this Sunday, March 29 (1-4pm), the LA Cupcake Challenge will showcase the delicacies of around 20 local cupcake shops and web-order businesses. The gluttonous attendees get to taste them and decide who bakes the best traditional and non-traditional cakes.

Of SoCal's two best-known bakeries, SusieCakes, which has a Newport Beach location, will be taking part, but Sprinkles won't.

There are also two participating bakeries from Long Beach (which falls within the OC Weekly's remit): Miss Priss and Charmed, plus online companies that deliver in this area.

An afternoon spent cramming your face with cake, plus coffee and Nesquik milkshake, might sound like bliss... until you realize you have to fork out $40 for a ticket.

On the other hand, it's twenty bucks cheaper than last year's sell-out event, which involved wine (wine + cake = bad idea).

And, somehow, the prospect of getting our laughing gear around the PB&J creations of the delightfully named Oinkster café is—to quote that famous tagline—priceless.
