Growl Juice Pub, a New Cold-Pressed Juice Shop, Opens Tomorrow In Old Towne Orange

All the rage in Los Angeles, cold-pressing juice involves compressing fruit and vegetables rather than shredding them with blades, which some experts say kills nutrients by releasing heat from the friction.

Growl Juice Pub, which opens tomorrow in Old Towne Orange, is one of the first shops in Orange County dedicated to the process. (Living Juice in Laguna Beach specializes in cold-pressed juices; Nekter Juice Bar sells a cold-pressed juice cleanse.) Founded by Josh Nichols, the company gets inspiration from craft breweries, offering 64-ounce growlers, six-packs and flights of raw, organic juice. The menu also includes raw nut milks, pitaya and acai bowls (according to creative director Jenna Toscas, pitaya is “like dragon fruit's Mexican cousin”), all-natural smoothies, shots and elixirs (the Immuni-fire should knock out any any cold with its blend of lemon, ginger and cayenne), along a detox cleanse.

Each 16-ounce bottle of juice is made with 3 pounds of fruit or vegetables, so it's packed with vitamins and other good stuff. “Can you imagine eating 3 pounds of kale or spinach?” Toscas asks. The bottles are glass, not plastic, and can be brought back for discounts on refills.

Growl Juice Pub is having a soft opening tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An official grand-opening date will be announced soon.
