Get Gastronimica at Rags Next to Crosby

A food critic has few culinary rituals, given he or she must constantly push forward in the search for the newest, best places. I can count a couple I follow–drunk sessions at Memphis at the Santora, Anaheim meetings at Kareem's Restaurant, rest stop at the Surfin' Chicken in San Clemente, and meetings with sources…somewhere.

And then there is my monthly trek to the Crosby, with a stop next door to Rags International for magazines–best of all the wonderful culinary journal, Gastronomica.

Published by the University of California, it is a treasure trove of scholarly articles–this month's issue (the one being held by my chica) has articles titled “Upgrading the Local: Belgian Cuisine in Global Waves,” “Mealtime at a Tibetan Monastery” and cannot be read online, cheapskates. Be a mensch–support Rags, and buy a copy. But go fast–I bought one yesterday, and only two remain…
