I wasn't impressed with Rockin' Taco Cantina. The food we ordered one night was no better than On The Border -- a lazily put together plate of nachos, insipid enchiladas, and according to my friend, weak margaritas (I wouldn't know, I don't drink 'em).
And then there was the piano playing. Perhaps it was because they stuck us in the back room, in an awkward table while the piano player was at the bar area up front where the action was.
From where we sat, the music just sounded like noise -- too muffled to make out, but too loud to ignore.
When we were done, we kicked ourselves for trying the place over Downtown Fullerton's other, better eateries. The Slidebar. Lizarran Tapas.
So last year, when Rockin' Taco closed, I shed not a tear. Any day this month, it reopens as the Matador Cantina, reportedly a more upscale place with "a fresh fusion of native and contemporary Mexican-inspired cuisines," whatever that means. I just hope it's better.
