Front Porch Pops Adds Pies To Permanent Menu

We met up with Erin Whitcomb just over two years ago for her On the Line interview. Since then, Front Porch Pops found a storefront to call home in Old Towne Orange, and Whitcomb's added ice cream to the menu. With all this chilled happiness, it was time to go a step further.

They had done small test batches of pies in the past, but word on the street is that these sweet slices are now a fixture on their menu. 4-inch “pielettes” and 9-inch full sized pies will be available at the brick-and-mortar. 2-inch pie “pops” (served on a stick) and pie “shots” (exactly how they sound) can be pre-ordered. There's also a special tasting event this weekend, but more on that after the obligatory jump.

Seriously seasonal options include Classic Pumpkin, Candy Cane Lane, Eggnog Custard and Spiced Apple Cranberry. Although we're more Peanut Butter S'more or Chocolate Bourbon Pecan inclined, but to each their own– right? Front Porch Pops plans to hold free pie tastings, featuring different varieties each Saturday from noon to 7 p.m.

In addition, this Saturday they will be holding The Great Crust Throwdown. It's a blind taste-test where, per Whitcomb, “…we're inviting folks to stop by our shop and directly compare our crust to Marie Callender's, Polly's Pies and to your average frozen crust from the grocery store. We put so much love in hand-rolling all our crusts, and this is an opportunity for folks to experience first-hand what sets our pies apart.” Sounds like a test worth studying for.
