How do we turn down free dessert? We don't. So when our friend at Off the Menu OC explained his box o' treats a few weekends ago, we had to go and find out for ourselves. Warning: Readers may experience sugar overload after experiencing Sidecar Doughnuts.
In a self-promotion effort to drum up loyal clientele, this new specialty doughnut and coffee shop has simply been giving it away. Yes, AYCE (and take with you) chewy mouthfuls of pastry until they run out. But what's more important is that their final weekend to do so is this weekend. Keep reading to be rewarded.
Their selection changes weekly. When we were there, we encounteredmalasadas
, apple cake, apple-filled, eggnog, rosemary andbacon maple
(reminiscent of those found at Dynamo in SF) among others. Bakers were also handing out individual bags of breakfast sandwiches-- plain donuts split and filled with egg, sausage and cheese.
The brekkie party begins serving at 8:30 a.m. from their test kitchen located at 629 Terminal Way, Unit 2 in Costa Mesa. While you're there, be sure to sample some of Portland's finest, Stumptown Coffee-- French pressed for your caffeinated pleasure. Various roasts will be available for purchase if you so choose. Mind your manners, and don't step on wee toes. Oh, and if you spot a huckleberry, save one for us!
