Since the dissolution of his Costa Mesa-based rock band Japanese Motors, 25-year-old guitarist Nolan Hall has been keeping busy: He now travels the globe as the Vans surf team manager. “But it's nice to be home right now,” he adds.

A Market, Newport Beach
I've been hitting this place on my way to work for a quick coffee and some kind of pastry. They have a full breakfast and lunch menu, as well as a huge selection of wine, cheeses and other groceries. I also like that they have a magazine rack; it makes it easy to pick up some new reading material.

Dick Church's, Costa Mesa
This place is a classic diner, it just has a cool vibe to it. It's great for a late breakfast or lunch, and you don't have to worry about getting there before 12, because they serve breakfast all day. Service is pretty good, and the food comes out quick.

Mother's Market, Costa Mesa
Mother's is great, and there's not much else to say about this place. It has everything you need to stay healthy: Juice bar, restaurant, vitamins and everything vegetarian/vegan. My boss at work loves this place, so we usually eat there at least three times a week.

The Crosby, Santa Ana
I love this place! They always have great food specials, and reasonably priced cocktails. The chefs here really know what they are doing, and they change up the menu. They usually have good music playing, too!
