Eat This Now: Tacos de Papa At #TACOLIFE

Costa Mesa native and #TACOLIFE owner Juan Gonzales brings his mother's Jalisco style cooking to Whittier via a lively and casual taco bar in the usually quiet and forgettable East Side. #TACOLIFE (formerly Luna Estrella Mexican Cocina, before Gonzales became the sole owner and revamped the restaurant's concept) manages to perfect the balance between modern cuisine and traditional Mexican recipes with their simple yet masterful tacos de papa.

An order includes cotija cheese sprinkled on top of three mini fried corn tortilla shells stuffed with lettuce, pico de gallo, a secret creamy yet spicy yellow salsa, gooey melted mozzarella cheese and savory mashed potatoes. You won't taste better potato tacos outside of Lent. Other standouts include the Chorizo con Papa taco and the menu of Micheladas (which keeps things real with spicy tamarindo sticks) in original, mango, piña (pineapple) and sandía (watermelon) flavors. #TACOLIFE is the spot to get shamelessly taco- and michelada-wasted #respect.
