Eat This Now: Salted Peanut Butter Toffee Cookies From Tender Greens

There was a time when it was all about chocolate chip. After taking home economics, we learned how to bake snickerdoodles. But our tastes for dessert changed, like our desire to end a meal with savory instead of sweet.

It was a fluke for us to come across this particular treat at Tender Greens, a place better known for their yummy, healthy salads. Our friend actually recommended the carrot cake cupcakes, but they were out. We needed that dessert fix, but all we spotted were cookies, clear-wrapped bundles of seemingly innocent nibbles. We counted: 6 for $6. Not bad for a hipster cafeteria.

Peanut butter cookies by themselves are lip-smacking good. Accent that with toffee, and the sweet offsets that rich, nutty base. We didn't use to understand how salt brought out the flavors of a dish, until we ate eggs without seasoning and pasta before grating Parmigiano-Reggiano over it. Salt harmonized everything, making for one umami treat.

We shared the Tender Greens cookies with co-workers and knew it wasn't just us when they all came back and raved about our snack. If you know anything about office culture, treats are a common occurrence–but treats that everyone loves? Rare–just ask old-school Weeklings about El Pollo Loco burritos…but we digress: the unsolicited praise for the salted peanut butter toffee disks of joy made us wish we claimed them as our own.
