Dunkin' Donuts Returning to So Cal
East-coast donut giantDunkin' Donuts announced yesterday
that they're returning to Southern California in 2015, with 18 of 45 initial locations planned in Orange County and the South Bay area.
There was a time before the Internet when Dunkin' had stores in Orange County, and we old people might remember them fondly. For you younguns, this is back when telephones were anchored to the wall, and instead of HD touchscreens, they had a rotary dial. Dunkin's about as foreign to you as that, so let me explain.
You know how you want to go stuff your face after you get all high, and nothing else is open because it's past 1 am and In N Out closed? On the West coast, we have Del Taco and Taco Bell. Back east, people have White Castle and Dunkin' Donuts.
Except nobody thinks to hit the Bell for breakfast. Dunkin' has a dual-time slot utility because people also hit Dunkin' again in the morning for a bladder-busting, fuck-you-Bloomberg-sized bucket o' coffee on their way into work. Dunkin' had Trenta sized cups before Starbucks even conceived such an abomination.
But the donuts aren't great, and the breakfast bagel sandwiches aren't either. Maybe you've seen the commercials for the "Hot & Spicy" breakfast items with habanero chilis, that aren't "too spicy?" Pointless to even make such a feckless thing, isn't it?
If you can't wait until 2015 to experience one for yourself, the closest Dunkin' franchises are at Camp Pendleton and Las Vegas.
