Diego's Downtown Opens in Santa Ana

Diego's Downtown's got a cool logo, a “D” that's half calligraphy, half block letter. It is, perhaps, a hint that the new restaurant by a chef named Richard Espinachio is going to have one foot in Santa Ana's hipster scene, the other reveling in tacos.

Looking at the menu, that's exactly what it is. The appetizers include a tapenade, a fried calamari, and a cheese plate that's melted and drizzled with honey and pistachios. But the soup selection has albondigas, the salads feature one with nopales (cactus), and the main entrees has tortas ahogadas as well as an osso bucco.

The restaurant opened this week and is ready to take your orders at 224 E. 3rd Street in Santa Ana.
