California Gogi Korean Grill Planning Second Irvine Restaurant

California Gogi Korean Grill, the Chipotle-style Korean concept that opened in 2013 at University Center across from UCI, is now expanding to the parts of Irvine with fewer college students.

The restaurant will go in between Panda Express and Yogurtland at the Irvine Marketplace. It will follow G Burger and recently, Class 302 Tea Cafe, as the new kids on the block among the old guard of Thai Spice and Natraj Tandoori.

What is California Gogi Korean Grill?

Picture the full spectrum of Korean BBQ meats: bulgogi, spicy pork, chicken. Then imagine them as the protein for rice bowls (here called bibimbap), bentos, burritos, sandwiches, and tacos, all for under $8.

Get a bento and you get two meats, rice and the choice of six side dishes neatly assembled in its plastic compartments.

The side dishes are, of course, Korean panchan (those vegetable-heavy saucers that are an essential part of any Korean meal), which, like bulgogi is to a tortilla, is destined for a Chipotle-style setting such as this.
