Boomers! Fountain Valley Pisses Off Customers at Its First Luxe-Lonchera Festival

Last week, Edwin reported on a gathering of luxe loncheras that gathered at Boomers! in Fountain Valley. What Edwin's report didn't mention–because Boomers! neglected to tell anyone in its publicity for the event–is that anyone who entered had to pay $5 to enter the lot before enjoying the goods from participating luxe loncheras.

Needless to say, such seeming chicanery pissed off a lot of folks.

Faithful reader Ursula put it best on the Boomers! Facebook page:

I can't begin to express my frustration and disappointment over the fact that it was not announced ahead of time that there would be a $5 fee to get in. I feel worst of all for the trucks, since they no doubt lost out on a lot of business because of it. (It was pretty dead inside compared to the Teller lot, for example, or the first Saturday lunch down the road from you last week.) While my five friends and I stood around and figured out where to eat instead, we watched many others walk up, then turn around and leave.

Instead of owning up to its fuck-up, Boomers! dug in. The $5 they charged wasn't just a fee, it claimed–it was actually a redeemable coupon to use at the park. “The $5 admission not only goes to cover the costs of the more than 200 tables and chairs, but also for the DJ, patio heaters, restrooms, security and other entertainment at the event,” Boomers! replied to Ursula on Facebook.

No apology for misleading the public–because it didn't need one. Although Boomers! didn't announce the $5 entrance fee on its Facebook page, the information was listed on its website–but who bothers checking websites nowadays, anyway?
