BBQ Contest in HB ALL WEEKEND

The second annual Ribs, Pigs, and Watermelons BBQ Contest moves to the beach for 2013, and over 65 top teams compete for bragging rights and $10,000 in prize money.

What's in it for you, non-competing BBQ fanatic? The chance to sample your way through the teams who're after your vote in the People's Choice contest. That, and the chance to help raise funds for American Family Housing, which shelters and feeds our homeless neighbors right here in Orange County.

Cooks will preview their skill to the public on Friday night, with a Taste of BBQ from 5 p.m. to 10. But for the teams after the big money, they'll start slow-cooking their briskets and pork butts late at night and prepare for the KCBS-sanctioned contest on Saturday afternoon.

The best times for you to to show up on Saturday would be from noon through 2pm, when the teams are turning in their best BBQ to the judges. Teams will serve the best of the rest to you, and if you're slacking, you'll miss out.

Saturday's Best of BBQ will continue through 10pm, and resume again on Sunday between noon and 5pm.

Adult three day passes cost $10, and includes 2 food tickets. Additional tickets may be purchased for additional samples. Kid three day passes cost $5. For couples, VIP passes are available for $60, which includes 2 adult passes, parking for one day, and 10 food / drink tickets.
