All-You-Can-Eat Crawfish… at IKEA.

Yes, you read that correctly. IKEA, the Swedish purveyor of entry-level furniture to the freshly graduated and recently divorced citizens of the world, is hosting an all-you-can-eat crawfish boil on Friday, August 20, 2010.

The price is $9.99 for adults and $2.49 for under-12s, and the promotion runs for just two hours, from 5 to 7 p.m.

“What,” you may be asking, “do crawfish have to do with Sweden?”

Swedish people love crawfish; they're called kräftor. For the three weeks in August that Swedish rivers aren't iced over, Swedes host parties called kräftskiva, where they boil the little buggers with crown dill (that is, dillweed that's gone to bud but not to flower), a little bit of anise, salt and sugar. They eat it with knäckebrød (crispy flatbread), butter, potatoes, and strawberry desserts. The accompaniment? Bottles and bottles of snaps–that is, akvavit, whiskey or vodka.

If you go, the same rule applies in Sweden as in Louisiana: sug huvudet! (Suck the head.)
