A Defense of Dunkin' Donuts

If you've never had Dunkin Donuts before, I feel bad for you.

Dunkin Donuts makes me happy. It's been there for me since day one. It's seen me after late nights with friends when things have been rough. It's seen me after late nights with friends when things have been great. It's dealt with me without any makeup on first thing in the morning, and it doesn't even care. DD has accepted me at my worst and embraces me at my best.

Moving to California a year ago was one of the best decisions I've made both professionally and personally. But when I realized Dunkin Donuts wasn't out here, my heart broke. A void was created that no Coffee Bean could fill. I questioned the meaning of life, because was a life without Dunkin Donuts worth living? To this day, I'm still not sure.

Often times, I find myself in this dreamless state of being in the morning looking for a caffeine fix. Sure, there are plenty of options, but none are as good as a Caramel Swirl Iced Coffee from DD (with cream and sugar, of course).

The coffee from Dunkin is next level. For fast-coffee options, there's nothing comparable. Not S'Bucks, not Coffee Bean, not McDonald's. It's everything I've ever wanted in coffee: smooth, slightly acidic without going overboard, and full bodied. And if regular coffee isn't your thing, it's okay: just ask them to add any pump from their variety of flavors.

Let's take a moment and discuss their breakfast sandwiches. I have no doubt that my successful college career was a direct result of DD's cheese, egg and bacon croissants. Buttery, warm and fluffy, it's like they whispered, “Good morning, beautiful,” into my mouth every day I ate them. You can even go healthy is you want to: Egg whites, lean proteins, you know, that sort of thing.

And the best thing: All these items are served all day. Yes, breakfast for dinner is an option.

Bottom line is that Dunkin Donuts is a magical place. I almost cried tears of joy when I heard that they would be gracing SoCal with its presence soon. It's that big of a deal, just you wait and see.

Until then, my Dunkin ground coffee from the grocery store will just have to do. Excuse me while I cry into my pillow until 2015.
