Lebanese footballs! Whenever people tell me they don't like Lebanese food because it's all rice, pita and kabob, I want to send them to Zait and Zaatar, one of the newest of the small Lebanese cafés sprouting up along Brookhurst in Anaheim's Little Arabia. These balls are made of lamb that is ground–by hand, thank you very much–with cracked wheat, garlic, spices and herbs. It's formed into the aforementioned football shapes and these are then fried in oil. Kibbeh are almost always served with mint-and-cucumber yoghurt; before dipping, while the balls are still rocket-hot, squeeze a little bit of lime over them. Add a mug of hot mint tea and maybe a small pastry for dessert, and you've got a great, cheap lunch.
