47. Spam And Egg Banh Mi From Tan Hoang Huong (THH)

Behold our annual 100 Favorite Dishes countdown! Every day until the publication of our fantabulous Best Of Issue, we'll list our favorite meals this year in descending order. Enjoy, pass it on, and tune in daily!

There was no way we were going to gloss over some of our favorite morning meals. Come on, son! Eggs, pork products, bread full of gluten. It's how the greatest start their day. And when you're on the line go like most of us, sometimes it needs to be handheld. We sought out a solid brekkie that didn't break the bank and came up golden.

Our local THH is on the way to our mechanic, making it all too convenient. Open at the crack of dawn, they churn out meals all day long. Folks with time on their hands sit down in their modest dining space. We tend to stand, grinning at the OC Weekly magazine rack, and wait while our tummy quietly growls.

Something about this particular combination is so ideal. Of course, it's probably our devotion to Spam that brings us back for this off-menu item (there's a mock sign by the register advertising it). Already a banh mi fan, we dig the pate spread, pickled daikon and carrot, cukes, jalapeno and cilantro. Eggs come scrambled, unless you suggest otherwise. A few slices of salty fried meat, and this is some serious business. Plus, at $4 a pop for this mass quantity, we can afford some Vietnamese coffee to wash it down. So frakking good.
