100 Favorite OC Dishes, #49: Bocatas at Olé! Spain Delishop

Many people have tried to recreate authentic Spanish cuisine in Orange County, but none have been more successful than the family who runs Olé! Spain Delishop. Eating a bocata at their shop is like being transported to a small deli on the cobbled streets of Madrid and having your first ever jamón serrano  sandwich—an epiphany in ham sandwich form.

While I'm extremely partial to Olé!'s imported jamón serrano bocata, every sandwich on their menu is worth exploring: a bocata de Madrilena filled with fried squid rings amped on lime, herbs and mayo, or their bocata de Catalana, a missile of butifarra (ham), vic (dry salami), pamplona (paprika sausage), manchego cheese and piquillo peppers. The epic cured meats are sliced to order, the bread is made daily, and each sandwich comes with a small drink and a choice of chips or olives (go with the olives, a perfect foil for each rich, meaty bite.)

Currently, Olé! Spain Delishop is offering a Groupon where you can get $20.25 for $13. Tell the owners to ignore Groupon and advertise with the Weekly instead haha. Now, go stock up for your next meal and your inevitable siesta later.
