100 Favorite OC Dishes, #25: Fish Tacos at Anepalco


Now that Danny Godinez's much-anticipated Mercado Modern Cuisine is finally open, make sure to visit—but don't forget the mothership Anepalco, either. He has some awesome fish tacos going on right now, and like most of Chef Godinez’ creations, these aren’t average tacos de pescado. Bite into a herbaceous epazote handmade corn tortilla, with generous chunks of flaky red snapper encrusted in a Creole-like seasoning that are fried until golden brown. It's all topped with a slaw of citrusy pico de gallo, purple cabbage, micro cilantro and pickled red onions and garnished with creamy cubes of avocado and thin slivers of crisp radish for that extra bite. A side of chile de arbol aioli is provided for dressing (take our advice and ask for extra); add a heaping spoonful of this smokey crema and enjoy! These tacos are only available for brunch at their Chapman location so like our Mexican-in-Chief always says,”Now, GO GO GO.”
