10 Great Places in Orange County for Egg Porn

The world is full of egg sluts and egg porn these days. Chefs put eggs on things like fries and burgers. Patrons, who find it cute and appetizing, take photos of such dishes and share them online–resulting in an endless cycle of egg exploitation. This being said, the egg obsession might never end. Can you handle more photos of egg yolk dripping down all foods in slow-motion? Of course you can. In fact, you want more.

OC egg-lovers: here are ten places to bookmark for future egg escapades.

10. Egg-Topped Clam Chowder Fries at Slapfish

Why get chowder fries when you can get chowder fries with an egg on top? Not on the official menu, you'll have to ask for the egg as an extra. When served it looks like a lid that uncovers Slapfish's classic combination of fries, bacon, and clam chowder. The egg combines well with the bacon to give the fries a hearty bite.

9. Freiburger at Dog Haus (Santa Ana)

The Freiburger combines beef, fries, white American cheese, slaw, and a fried egg in a Hawaiian roll–much like the sliders at The Burnt Truck. The focal point of the burger is the egg simply because it asks for attention. Poke one hole into it and the yolk drips everywhere, tinting the cheese, slaw, and meat like a sauce.

8. Multiple Dishes at Hashigo Korean Kitchen

There's something beautiful about how an egg's golden yolk complements the colors of a Korean dish. From the fried egg on kimchi fried rice and bibimbap to the crack-your-own-egg aesthetic of soondubu, eggs not only complement the flavors but complete the dishes aesthetically too.

7. Pork Belly Bao Tacos at Toro Burger (Santa Ana)

Before Baos Hog there was Toro Burger, an eatery specializing in everything trendy (remember ramen burgers?) including bao tacos. Of their different bao taco flavors, egg-lovers should go straight for the pork belly because it has slices of boiled egg in it. If that's not enough egg for you, there's also the stack burger: angus beef, bacon, cheese, and a fried egg.

6. Multiple Dishes at Hopscotch (Fullerton)

Hopscotch was on our 25 Most Instagrammed Foods in Orange County list and for what reason? User-generated egg porn. Their dishes with eggs on top were the most photographed, whether that was the duck poutine, breakfast banh mi, or fried egg sandwich.

5. Ramen (All Types) with Egg at Kitakata Ban Nai

No one does egg like the Japanese. From omurice to tamagoyaki, they've stretched it into multiple forms–even to ramen where the soft-boiled egg plays a major role. Half liquid-like and half solid, the egg gives the ramen bowls at Kitakata Ramen Ban Nai (and anywhere else really) a change in texture. You'll want to get a bite of it in between slurping their wide, curly noodles and bits of toro chashu.

4. Pork Belly Poutine at Bosscat Kitchen and Libations

An American-hipster remix of the traditional Canadian dish, the poutine at Bosscat features thin slices of Duroc pork belly, potato wedges, gravy, and a duck-fat fried egg on top. Though it's just as carb-heavy as the Canadian original, it's terrifically fattier. As for the egg, expect the yolk to run down and inject itself into the amalgamated mixture.

3. ABC Burger with Egg at Peter's Gourmade Grill

Adding an egg to a burger involves risk. Depending on the consistency of the burger, the egg could destroy the whole thing and collapse it into a yolky mess. Luckily, the burgers at Peter's Gourmade Grill hold their own. Because their buns are sound and patties full, the egg is well-secured next to the avocado, bacon, and cheese.

2. Almost Anything at KTCHN DTSA (Santa Ana)

With a tagline like “eggs all day” and an egg in their website logo, you already know what KTCHEN DTSA is about. There's a fried egg on almost every dish here, starting with their meats on toast. You can get pulled pork, smoked chicken, or smoked corn beef–but my personal favorite is the pulled pork because it's served with jalapeƱo aioli slaw, toasted pumpkin seeds, and gorgonzola crumbles. Delish.

1. Smoked Salmon at Break of Dawn (Laguna Hills)

What better way to celebrate the poached egg than to pair it with smoked salmon and a green herb sauce? Our own Dave Lieberman has praised it in the past:

It starts with a riff on polenta, savory oatmeal allowed to cool, then pan-fried until crispy. It's topped with smoked salmon (smoked on the premises, of course), two perfectly poached eggs, some pickled vegetables and a deep green herb sauce, heavy on the cilantro. Eaten component by component, they're well-prepared foods; piled together as a single bite, however, they form a whole much more than their constituent parts.

Oh, and their tempura eggs are good too.
