Spotted for sale last night in one of those SanTana produce trucks the city's pocho City Council so hates was a Kellogg's Corn Flakes box with pictures of salsa legend Celia Cruz and Chicano labor icon Cesar Chavez. We figured it was pirateria, something as authentic as sidewalk CDs or swap meet Bart Simpson T-shirts, until we stumble across this website. Where the hell were we in September that we just found out about this? Stanton? What's even better is that the produce truck selling the Chave
Orange County's favorite pastime besides bashing Mexicans is bashing Stanton, and there was a doozy of a wallop in yesterday's LA Times story on Bill Hunt's demotion. To quoth San Clemente councilmember Wayne Eggleston:
I wouldn't want to stop in Stanton, much less patrol it
That's the same we feel about Aliso Viejo. The quote was ugly enough for gentlemanly Jubal over at OC Blog to call out Eggleston on his civic bigotry. Eggleston responded with an apology and claimed Times reporter Garrett
A couple of weeks ago, this infernal blog reported on G. Wayne Eggleston, the San Clemente councilmember who memorably told Los Angeles Times reporter Garrett Therolf, "I wouldn't want to stop in Stanton, much less patrol it," claimed he was misquoted and then told OCBlog readers to "not co-operate with LA Times readers as they are not trustworthy." We forgave the double-negative, but not the charge, especially after Therolf stood by his notes.
Now Therolf tells us Eggleston has dropped the mis

Wondering about that sorta creepy neighbor who’s still talking about last summer’s SoCal wildfires? The guy who barbecues outdoors a whole lot more than seems normal?
Pretty soon, you should be able to go online and see if he’s among the arsonists registered with Orange County police departments. According to the Department of Justice’s Sex Offender Tracking Program, which also keeps tabs on your everyday pyromaniacs, there are currently 119 in the OC.
Leader of the pack? Santa Ana
Of all the trendy foods to hit L.A. recently, nothing has intrigued me more than Kyochon Chicken, fried chicken as done by Koreans. Jonathan Gold's Pulitzer-prize winning taste-buds swears by it ("Current fried chicken mecca", he writes), while food bloggers, Chowhounds, and Yelpers alike have gone ga-ga, typing out countless testimonials of its greatness.
The buzz has been so loud that it's even spurred the predictable backlash, a signal that the hype has run its course, at least in L.A.

Jake Wager picked up the daily newspaper that Aug. 16 Saturday morning and could not believe what he read.

This was disconcerting to Wager, seeing as how he's Stanton's city manager.
