  • MySpace Genre Semiotics!

If you didn't know, bands don't like telling you what they sound like. Here's an example why: Let's say I play in a band, we're called "Stillborn Leper", and my boss asks me what we sound like, and I say "We're like a mix of Radiohead and The Velvet Underground, but our guitarist is really into The Pixies and Joy Division so sometimes we have a lot of post-punk going on, too." Stillborn Leper is, in all likeliness, a poorly executed teenage train wreck so godawfully bland it could sound like an

  • All's Fair in Love and OC

When it's the opening day of the Orange County Fair, you have plenty of time in traffic — an hour, in fact, just to get from Santa Ana to the fairgrounds — to realize just how poorly the 55 is designed. • Incoming: She Wants Revenge, The Briggs Coming to the Glass House

The Glass House in Pomona has a huge week coming up--Silversun Pickups on Sunday, Jenny Lewis on Monday, TV on the Radio on Tuesday, Conor Oberst on Wednesday and The Black Keys on Thursday--but, always looking towards the future, they've also got some shows coming up beyond that.

  • TONIGHT: Jason Lytle at Art Theatre of Long Beach

There is a ton of stuff happening around our towns tonight, not the least of which is former Grandaddy lead singer Jason Lytle at the Art Theatre in Long Beach.Sounds like a promising show, just for the venue alone. I was at Greater California's album release concert there a couple of months ago, and, somewhat unsurprisingly, it turns out that a cool movie theater is really a novel place to see a gig. Doug Wallen interviewed Jason Lytle for last week's OC Weekly (check that out here), and our go
