It's now been over a month since the Weekly revealed that Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown had a molestation allegation lodged against him in the past. We knew Brown wouldn't comment on the matter (we thought about confronting him yesterday, when he presided over the Confirmation of my brother and others at St. Boniface in Anaheim, but thought better of it), but what has shocked us is that neither the bleeding Los Angeles Times or Orange County Register ever hopped on the story. We understa
As everyone surely now knows, The Drudge Report has solved the Mark Foley mystery. As you know, Republicans are all about taking responsibility for one's actions. As they demonstrate here, they are indeed taking responsibility--for having an innocent "prank" about pedophilia (nice sense of humor, guys) fall into the hands of evil Democrats (oxymoron?). We just just picture Bill and Hill and Monica, hunched over the computer, copying, pasting and sending Foley's prank out to the masses.

Today, Orange County Superior Court Judge Gail Andler ruled that a Sept. 10 deposition of Catholic Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod D. Brown for the Jeff Andrade case be released to the public. As a public service announcement, the Weekly presents an annotated version after the jump with beaucoup hotlinks. Warning: the spin of Brown and diocesan attorney Peter Callahan will cause nausea worthy of Magic Mountain. And for much more background, read our Ex Cathedra and Andrade archives.

Bear with us, gentle readers--this is a long post...
Though the Weekly anointed Orange Juice as the county's best blog, even the Juicers would admit that the king of the county blogosphere is OC Blog, started and administrated by Jubal, the nom de plume of political consultant and longtime local Republican activist Matt Cunningham. Its politics are unapologetically center-right--it says so on the banner. But we had no idea that OC Blog would also evolve into a mouthpiece for the pedo-priest pro
We've always tried really hard to like Jaime Soto, the auxiliary bishop in the Catholic Diocese of Orange who's leaving this weekend to become coadjutor bishop in the Diocese of Sacramento. He's a virtual Aztlanista on immigration, urges compassion for AIDS victims, and always sports a smile. But our admiration for Soto goes the way of church attendance every time we remember Soto's involvement in the Orange diocese sex-abuse scandal.
It's still to be seen what exactly will KOCE-TV Channel 50's much-hyped documentary about Orange County Catholic life will contain (how much you wanna bet not a peep about the pedophile priests that terrorized county parishes for a quarter century?), but the Weekly can report that most of its principal funders helped the Diocese of Orange spin its sex-abuse scandal in one way or another.
The four sponsors listed for Matters of Faith (airing April 28th at 7 p.m.) are the law offices of Aitken, A
We and supporters of sex-abuse victims celebrated loudly when Bishop Jaime Soto left the Diocese of Orange to become the eventual head bishop of the Diocese of Sacramento. Soto, while a staunch defender of immigrant rights, was an active member of the Orange diocese sex-abuse scandal cover-up. To quote just a small part of a previous Ex Cathedra post:
Soto's role, compared to other heavyweights in Orange, seems small. In 1986, he wrote a letter in support of Andrew Christian Anderson, one of on

A ruling by the state Fourth District Court of Appeal in Santa Ana on Wednesday may represent the largest crack to date in Jessica's Law, the voter initiative Prop. 83 of 2006 that forbade sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or a park. Stress fractures had been evident several months before justices even heard the case, however.
The court determined that residency restrictions imposed by Prop. 83 amount to additional punishment for sex offenders’ original crimes, overturni
What is it with the Orange County Board of Supervisors and their love of pedophile apologists? In 2006, Third District Supe Bill Campbell tried placing Monsignor John Urell, the right-hand man of Diocese of Orange bishops for a good decade of their sex-abuse scandal, on the county's human relations commission until molestation victims raised rightful holy hell. Now, an addendum to this Monday's BoS agenda currently lists Monsignor Lawrence Baird as giving the invocation at 9:30 in the morn.Baird
I've rarely covered the sex abuse scandal up the 5 Freeway at the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, because--hello!--LA is LA and Orange County is it. But a scummy incident that happened last Wednesday warrants the attention of all naranjeros and good Catholics. Then, sex-abuse survivors held a press conference outside the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, otherwise known as the Rog Mahal after Cardinal Roger Mahony. The survivors were there to talk about the news that the United States Dis
Eight years after Daniel Sanchez became known as the "Long Beach Freeway Rapist" for his calculated, brutal rapes against mostly teen-aged women along the 710 freeway, he was sentenced to 615 years and nine life sentences in prison. Sanchez refused to go into court yesterday morning to face his victims and to hear his sentencing, according to the LA DA's office. Why this kind of sentencing is never handed down to the sexual

Yesterday, a Fresno jury acquitted the Catholic Diocese of Fresno of culpability in the priestly rapes of innocents, and does this news really surprise you given Fresno is Fresno? We really can't expect much intellectually and morally of this town, given its head padre is Bishop John Steinbock, former auxiliary bishop of the Orange diocese. On the witness stand, news accounts quote Steinbock as saying, "I never have returned anyone to ministry that I believe was guilty of sex abuse."HAHAHAHAHA!
Luis MejiaHere's a question for teachers and school administrators at El Modena High School in Orange: How do you lose track of a special ed student long enough to not notice that the school janitor is regularly luring her into his office and sexually assaulting her? Those questions may come up when prosecutors begin their case against 49-year-old Luis Antonio Mejia, a longtime janitor at the high school who is accused of abusing a special ed student there for almost five months. Mejia allegedly
England wants freedom but hasn't admitted his sick sex crimesA convicted California serial pedophile who despises Jews, cops and African Americans and who forced a kindergarten-age girl he purchased in Vietnam to become a sex slave to not only himself but also his German shepherd and basset hound, both males, becomes eligible for parole in December. Courtesy of Orange County District Attorney's OfficeFrederick DavisonThe Orange County District Attorney's Office is so upset over the dismissal of a civil suit aimed at keeping a convicted rapist and child molester locked up that it is alerting the community about the 40-year-old's man's release from custody today. The DA argued during a two-week trial that Frederick Davison should be kept in a state mental hospital as a sexually violent predator, but Orange County Superior Court Judge David
