HOT ROD
It's not exactly going out on a limb to say that Andy Samberg has been the best addition to the Saturday Night Live cast in a long time – he's been the main reason that for the first time since the dawn of the Internet age, fans actually started downloading video from the show. While Lorne Michaels still likes to try to force repetitive gags down our throats, “Dick in a Box” and “Chronic-What?-cles of Narnia” became oft-repeated catchphrases because people actually thought the

Actually, no, I can't imagine this ever getting any old--it's far superior to even the lofty heights of "Dick in a Box" and "Lazy Sunday."It was the second (I know, weird) digital short on "Saturday Night Live" last night, but apparently it's also the first single of a forthcoming album coming out in February by the Lonely Island (Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, the guys behind all the digital shorts). Their musical parodies are always great, so that album should be awesometown.
The sequel to seminal Lonely Island video "Just 2 Guyz." I never thought I'd be lucky enough to see a sequel, let alone or that they'd be able to capture the same aesthetic and looks years (and much Saturday Night Live success) later. What a treat to catch up with Guy #1 and Guy #2. And even more encouraging, it's just as funny! Footballfootballfootball tennis hockey golf. From their Incredibad album, on sale Feb. 10.
I took piano lessons for years as a kid. Maybe I should have practiced more (read: at all). We talked earlier this week about piano-heavy bands The Fray and Jack's Mannequin coming to Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, and now Keane (pictured), the English band that's been rockin' the 88 keys in one form or another since 1995 before breaking big in 2004 with "Somewhere Only We Know," are coming to the Grove of Anaheim on May 10. Tickets are $37 (yipes!) and go on sale this Saturday (March 21) at noo
Saturday Night Live had this skit years ago where they presented a Fugitivesque TV show called The Last Liberal. With all the talk on Fox News and conservative talk radio about the rise of Socialism in Obamerica, Bill Moyers decided to go out and find The Last Socialist to get the other side of the story. It turns out the subject of the host's recent Bill Moyers Journal interview is an old pal of the Weekly to boot!Moyers jokes that when it came to locating a socialist, his show "consulted the E
OK, so you're not sick of us writing about kooky Costa Mesa quartet the New Limb? No? OK, cool! Enjoy this fun video, featuring their cover of the Band's "The Weight." It's one of their live show staples, but here you can enjoy it over and over again, watching them in this serene living room setting (except for drummer Adam Chavez, who got exiled to the lawn. Sorry, buddy). It also helps associate "The Weight" with a modern reference that isn't those Saturday Night Live sketchedsfs with dudes si
Nasim PedradAfter next season, Will Ferrell (who was born and raised in Irvine) and Jon Lovitz (who got a bachelor's degree from UCI) will not be the only Saturday Night Live alums with ties to Orange County's Stepford. Jezebel.com reports that former Irvine resident Nasim Pedrad is one of two women who will be added to next season's SNL cast--and she will be the 147-year-old show's first Iranian-American. Along with the addition of Brooklyn comic Jenny Slate, Pedrad "brings the [male to
Brand new Saturday Night Live cast member Jenny Slate accidentally dropped the f-bomb on live air--during her first skit ever. EVER. It hasn't quite aired yet here on the west coast but enjoy the clip on YouTube while it's still there. Dig the look of horror on her face immediately after. The good news? Uh, at least it wasn't the other new SNL-er, Nasim Pedrad, former Irvine resident?
